Teen suicide is on the rise — and this is why

Published in The Conversation, 2017

In this article, I analyze the rise in teen suicide through a sociological lens. I argue that disconnection, relentless consumer pressures, and the erosion of supportive community life under neoliberalism contribute to despair among young people. Teenagers are left isolated in competitive, materialist systems that fail to meet their emotional and social needs. I call for structural change that prioritizes connection, care, and authentic community to address this crisis.
